<p>I started buying puts on Tesla as I thought it was a structurally unprofitable business nearing a cash crunch as hundreds of competing products were coming to market.</p>
<p>As I've studied TSLA more, I've come to realize that not only is Elon Musk a stock promoter and likely cheating about the financials, but he's long ago crossed the ethical line into doing whatever it takes to hit his stock market targets and will sacrifice vehicle quality or even kill his customers to hit whatever silly targets he's tweeted about last. First it was knowing about flaws with auto-pilot and stabilizers, then Martin Tripp whistle-blowing about faulty batteries, then the tent production facility but now this.</p>

<p>How can anyone read this article and multiple like it and conclude anything other than that Tesla is the Theranos of automobiles; and that they'll do anything (including killing customers) to hit an arbitrary self-imposed nonsensical metric like 5k Model 3 in a week? Not only that, but they only met their guidance by using pro-forma "factory gated" production.</p>
<p>Remember at Theranos, the fraud was uncovered only when whistle-blowers reached out to jouranlists and regulators as they wanted to avoid people dying. No one ever cared about the VC investors losing money. They cared about people dying. There are 40k people at TSLA and clearly quite a few of them are now leaking information to various papers and regulators.</p>
<p>Much like Theranos, the journalists are striking first and they have their sources and there will be many more leaks going forward. The regulators will strike in a few months b/c this is political and you need some voter outrage but you have to think they're also looking.</p>
<p>Today is D-Day. I guarantee you that where there's smoke, there's a raging bonfire of problems and every journalist is desperate to break the story. Theranos, Enron, Etc. all collapsed within 90 days of the journalists getting up to speed and knowing what quesitons to ask and I guarantee you there are plenty of pissed off potential whistle-blowers here. I think this fraud collapses by X-Mass and they sure as hell aren't raising new capital when you have journalists circling and claiming that they knowingly produced defective cars.</p>
